Occupational Therapy
Shaping Our Future
Occupational therapy (OT) is a type of therapy that helps people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems. Occupational therapists help with difficulties that affect a person's emotional, social, and physical needs. Pediatric OTs help kids play, improve school performance, and assist with daily living activities. Occupational therapy also boosts self esteem and helps children provide a sense of accomplishment.
With OT kids can:
-
Develop fine motors skills for grasping and releasing tools and develop good handwriting or computer skills.
-
It also helps to improve eye–hand coordination so children can play and perform required skills such as batting a ball or coping notes from a blackboard.
-
Master basic life skills such as bathing, getting dressed, brushing teeth, and self-feeding.
-
Learn positive behaviors and social skills by practicing how they control anger and frustration.
-
Obtain special equipment to help build independence. These include wheelchairs, splints, bathing equipment, dressing devices, and communication aids.
